How unconscious beliefs control your behavior - and that of your dog

Many people believe that they make conscious decisions about what they do. But the truth is that almost everything we think, feel or do is controlled by subconscious beliefs. These beliefs are like invisible programs running in the background - often unnoticed, but incredibly powerful. They influence how you react to your dog, how you set boundaries, how you deal with setbacks and how you live authority.

What are subconscious beliefs?

Subconscious beliefs are deeply rooted convictions about yourself, life and other people. They usually arise in childhood - from experiences, adventures, imprints or from what we have been taught.

For example:

  • "I can't make any mistakes."

  • "I always have to please everyone."

  • "If I'm strict, I lose love."

  • "I'm not good enough."

  • "Control means security."

These sentences continue to have an effect - even when we have long forgotten them.

What this has to do with your dog

Many beliefs seem to have nothing to do with dogs - and yet they shape your behavior during training. For example, if you learned as a child that strictness is "bad", you will now find it difficult to set clear boundaries for your dog. If you have learned that love only comes when you please, you will unconsciously try to please your dog - instead of leading him consistently. If you have learned that mistakes are embarrassing, you will avoid situations in which you feel unsafe - e.g. encounters in which your dog might bark. The problem: your dog doesn't react to your knowledge, but to your inner attitude.

Knowledge is not enough

I often see this in coaching: after a while, my course participants know exactly what they should do - but they don't do it. Not because they are lazy, but because an unconscious belief blocks them. It's like in sport: an athlete can do everything perfectly in training, but fails in competition because a sentence like: "I must not fail" is running in their subconscious. The same thing happens in dog training: everything works in training - but in everyday life, when it comes down to it, something is blocking them internally.

My job as a coach

My job is not just to give you the practical and theoretical knowledge you need to lead and train your dog. That's only half the job. The other - often much more important - part is to make you aware of your unconscious beliefs. Because only when you recognize which programs are guiding you can you change them. I help you to reprogram these patterns - so that you can really react freely, calmly and clearly in everyday life instead of being controlled by old emotions.

Awareness creates change

As soon as you start to recognize your own inner beliefs, everything changes: your attitude, your energy, your communication - and therefore also your dog's behaviour. Because dogs don't follow words, they follow the vibration behind them. If you are clear within yourself, your dog will be too. If you are calm within yourself, your dog will also be calm.

Conclusion

Your dog does not react to your knowledge, but to your awareness. That's why real change is not just training - it's inner work. When you are ready to understand not just your dog, but yourself, a whole new level of clarity, trust and connection opens up. This is the point at which training ceases to be technique - and becomes leadership.
